The International Truck Parts Association (ITPA) was formed in 1974 with 47 charter members. These companies deal in new, used, rebuilt, and reconditioned parts (primarily drive line components) for heavy- and medium-duty trucks. Many of the members are rebuilders. Membership is limited by the bylaws to 125 companies. The intention is to keep ITPA to a size that allows members to become acquainted with one another and familiar with their specialties.

ITPA's primary activities are to stage two meetings a year to discuss mutual problems, marketing methods, and transact business. The Annual Meeting is held in April; the Fall Meeting in late October/ early November during the International BIG R Show. Usually 2/3 to 3/4 of the member companies are represented at these sessions.

Two publications are regularly issued; a monthly bulletin with ITPA and industry news and a membership directory in a three-ring binder so it can be updated regularly. Other publications, reprints, etc., are distributed to members on matters in which ITPA has an interest. Safety and environmental issues are closely monitored.

ITPA is a member of National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW) in Washington, D.C. Through it, ITPA members can obtain a variety of insurance coverage and discounts on express and freight services, car rentals, Dun & Bradstreet credit services and other items. (See membership programs to see a summary of the many programs available to members.) ITPA is also a member of the Heavy Vehicle Maintenance Group (HVMG). HVMG was organized to represent the interest, common policies, and purposes of those companies engaged in the independent heavy-duty truck, bus, farm equipment, construction equipment, and off-road vehicle parts and service aftermarket.

Special projects are undertaken to benefit members. ITPA has published a directory of castings numbers for driveline components. It has sponsored research and development of specialized equipment for dismantlers and rebuilders which was offered at a discount to members. It has conducted marketing studies to examine to impact of OEM's on the aftermarket.

The dues for Active ITPA Members are $450 (US) per year. Applicants are required to have three written endorsements from current ITPA Active Members. The ITPA office will assist applicants in obtaining these endorsements: Executive Director, Venlo Wolfsohn can be reached at 7127 Braeburn Place, Bethesda, MD 20817, Phone: 202/544-3090, Fax: 301/ 229-7331
